Overview

The 6th Asia Pacific Science and Technology Conference for Disaster Risk Reduction (APSTCDRR) is a regional platform that brings together scientists, policymakers, practitioners, development partners, the private sector, and civil society to strengthen the integration of science, technology, innovation (STI), policy, and action for disaster risk reduction (DRR) in the Asia-Pacific region. The conference builds on the legacy of previous APSTCDRRs and supports the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015–2030 by advancing evidence-based, risk-informed decision-making.

Set against the backdrop of increasing climate-related, technological, biological, and cascading risks in the Asia-Pacific, the conference emphasizes the urgent need to bridge gaps between scientific knowledge, policy uptake, institutional coordination, and practical implementation. It highlights both technological advances—such as AI, remote sensing, big data, and early warning systems—and the importance of community-based innovation, indigenous knowledge, and inclusive governance.

The conference also serves as a critical milestone toward 2030, as it will be the final APSTCDRR before the conclusion of the Sendai Framework period. Its outcomes are expected to contribute directly to the 2027 Asia Pacific Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (APMCDRR) in Sendai by providing science- and technology-based inputs for regional policy discussions.
